1.1 Woven Thermal Protection System
A new technology for producing woven thermal protection materials that uses precisely engineered 3D weaving techniques. The woven approach utilizes commercially available weaving technology, consisting of equipment, modeling and design tools, to optimize the weave.

1.2 Durable Redundant Joint to Build Structures from Sections of Composite Sandwich Panel
A new adhesively bonded joint concept for curved and flat panel sandwich architectures. A pre-form, inserted into the seam between sandwich panels, provides a larger total bonding area and multiple load paths for an improved distribution of load through the joint.

1.3 Blocking/De-Blocking Resin Systems
This technology is a modification to traditional resin chemistry to prevent polymerization and cross-linking of the resin when heated and pressed in an autoclave or other common resin curing system.

1.4 Ultrasonic Stir Welding
Ultrasonic stir welding technology to join large pieces of very high-strength metals such as titanium and Inconel.

1.5 Variable-Power Handheld Laser Torch
The technology is a dynamically variable spot size laser system for bonding (welding and braiding) metal components.

1.6 Thermal Stir Welding
The new technology enables a superior joining method by allowing manufacturers to join dissimilar materials and to weld at high rates.

1.7 A New Aluminum Alloy
A modified aluminum alloy that has superior properties over its predecessor, A356-T6.

1.8 Modular Fixture for Assembly and Welding Applications
A new, modular fixture for holding metal in place during the assembly and welding of cylindrical and conical sections of a pressure vessel or a large structure.

1.9 Cladding and Freeform Deposition for Coolant Channel Close-Out
A robust and simplified manufacturing technology to build closed cooling channels and contain the high-pressure coolant.

Aerogels (4)

2.1 Polymer Cross-Linked Aerogels
Ultra-lightweight polymer cross-linked aerogels are mechanically robust, highly porous, low-density materials and three times denser than native aerogels, but more than 100 times stronger.

2.2 Durable Aerogel Technologies
New material for thermal insulation and lightweight structures, the polyimide aerogels are 500 times stronger than conventional silica aerogels. The innovation represents a revolutionary advance over fragile silica aerogels because it is highly flexible and foldable in thin film form.

2.3 Aerogel-Reinforced Composites
Insulation materials for environments of up to 1100°C.

2.4 Aerogel-Fiber Hybrid Laminate
A multifunctional hybrid laminate composite for harsh environments and high-performance applications.

3.1 A Method for Thermal Spraying of Coatings
New thermal spraying technology that applies metal coatings with improved adhesion and protection.

3.2 Polyamide Aerogels
Polyamide aerogels provide a new line of applications due to their unique properties: translucent like silica aerogels; thermoplastic; ultra-low density; superior mechanical properties; low-temperature operating range; and highly flexible when compared to polyimide aerogels.

3.3 Rare Earth Aluminate Composites
A new technique using rare earth elements to fabricate a dual-phase ceramic composite that combines a wear-resistant phase and a solid-state lubricant phase. The material exhibits a tenfold reduction in the friction coefficient, a six-fold reduction in wear, and a significant reduction in debris caused by wear.

3.4 Aerofoam
New inorganic/organic materials for thermal and acoustic insulation.

3.5 Aeroplastic Composites
New polymeric composites to reduce heat transfer.

3.6 Polyimide Wire Insulation Repair System
Permanent, flexible, and less intrusive wire repair systems. The polyimide wire insulation repair system is a kit consisting of thin film polyimide patches that are applied to damaged areas of wire insulation with a heating device that adheres the polyimide repair film into place.

3.7 Layered Composite Insulation for Extreme Conditions
A layered composite insulation system for non-vacuum applications and extreme environmental exposure conditions.

3.8 Polyimide Foams
The multi-use polyimide foams are effective for sound, heat, and cold insulation. They are lightweight and fire-resistant and can be formed into a variety of shapes.

3.9 Multilayered Fire Protection
New flexible, light weight and portable thermal protection system made of multilayer blankets that are designed to handle external temperatures of up to 1100°C.

3.10 Aluminum Alloy for High Temperature Applications
A novel low cost cast aluminum alloy offers dramatic strength at high temperatures.

A gear that incorporates lightweight, high-strength composites into drive systems.

Vibration ring reduces damaging and noisy vibrations within mechanical drivelines.

4.3 High-Temperature Single Crystal Pre-Loader
Advanced single crystal spring pre-loaders maintain resiliency in excess of 1100°C.

4.4 Super-Elastic Tire using Memory Alloy
The novel use of shape memory alloys capable of undergoing high strain as load bearing components, instead of typical elastic materials, results in a tire that can withstand excessive deformation without permanent damage.

4.5 NiTi Alloy Ball Bearings
A new method for making small diameter, high-grade ball bearings consisting of nickel-titanium, NiTi, and hafnium, Hf, alloy that can produce high-quality ball bearings of any size, but most notably less than 0.25″ (6.35 mm) in diameter.

4.6 Gear Bearings
This technology represents a mechanical architecture innovation by combining gear and bearing functions into a single unit that significantly improves gear drives for electrical, internal combustion, and turbine motors.

4.7 Fast Precise Dead-End Welding Device
This technology solves the problem of unacceptable welds in dead-end configurations. It produces consistently high quality dead-end welds in a fraction of time required when using conventional welding techniques.

4.8 Normally-Closed Zero Leak Valve
Pyrotechnic valves are replaced with magnetostrictive valves.

4.9 Nitinol-Actuated Normally Open Valve Assembly
A zero-leak, permanent isolation valve that helps prevent leaks in hydraulic systems.

4.10 Pulsed Plasma Lubrication Device and Method
Pulsed plasma lubricator for the in situ replenishment of lubricants in extreme environments.

4.11 Hybrid Inflatable Pressure Vessels
A technology for inflatable pressure vessels with varied applications.

4.12 Harsh Environment Protection Housing
Novel ruggedized housing for an electrical or fluid umbilical connector that prevents intrusion of dust, sand, dirt, mud, and moisture during field use under harsh conditions.

4.13 Quick Disconnect for High-Pressure Mate – De-Mate
This technology is intended for use in dusty environments where dust particles can contaminate high pressure connectors resulting in wear on connector surfaces and unreliable connections. The Quick Disconnect utilizes the gas supplied by the umbilical to spray on, entrain, and remove dust from the connector surfaces prior to mating.

4.14 Dust Tolerant Quick Disconnect With Self-Sealing Barrier
The Quick Disconnect (QD) employs columnar arrays of parallel filaments on both sides of a connector to remove dust from the connector surfaces prior to mating.

4.15 Magnetic Pressure Valves
Magnetically retained fast-response pressure relief valve that is designed to fully open at precise cracking pressures and that operates in a fully open/fully closed manner.
